Certificate Programme in Hospitality Management

This qualification is designed for people with work experience in the hospitality and tourism sector who wish to deepen their knowledge and obtain a recognised management qualification in the field of business and hospitality.

In order to obtain the Certificate in Management and Leadership for Business and Hospitality, participants must successfully complete the following 5 mandatory modules + 1 optional module, providing 13-14 credits in total at level 3, with a total of 49 classroom hours:

Unlocking your Leadership Potential to Drive Business Performance
This module aims to assist students in understanding the organisation as a system, the difference between management and leadership, the impact of effective leadership and the power of motivation on individual and business performance.

Using Strategy Execution Methods to Effectively Deliver  your Business Goals
This module is designed to ensure that supervisors and managers understand how to focus their development efforts in the effective delivery of the organisations priorities. They will develop the knowledge and skills to identiify departmental and individual goals. This module also explores effective ways of communicating and engaging teams in delivering these goals.

Developing a Customer Service Culture to Create Competitive Advantage & Business Growth
This module aims to enable candidates to identify what excellent customer service looks like and explores organisational and individual factors that underpin excellent customer service culture. This module will also help students to identify key actions, develop implementation plans to create this required culture.

Interpreting Key Financial Statement and Use Financial Data
This module is designed to demystify the use of ‘numbers’ for supervisors and managers. Real world examples are used to explore the three key financial statements in common use within most businesses.

Understanding the importance of Marketing to build customer loyalty
This module aims to develop supervisors’ and managers’ ability to better understand their customers and expectations of the service offered, Candidates will also learn the basic principles of marketing and its importance in building a loyal customer group.

+ 1 additional module (‘elective’) to be chosen from the 4 modules below:

• Building High Performing Teams Through Effective Performance Management
• Improving Your Management Systems to Enhance Operational Efficiency and Achieve Regulatory Compliance
• Natural Disaster Risk Assessment for the Hospitality Industry
• Train the Trainer – Delivering Effective Staff Training

Moreover, students can attend additional workshops, guest lectures and company visits that the School organises throughout the academic year, and possibly take Italian language class to prepare for possible job opportunities in Italy.

Assessment of students’ work will be carried out by a range of methods including assignments, essay examination and work assessments.

ESE encourages working people with a wide variety of backgrounds and qualifications, who meet the following entry requirements, to apply for the Certificate programme:

• min. age 18 and having completed secondary education with recognised qualification
• having relevant work experience in the hospitality and tourism sector
• students without English as a first language must present an IELTS certificate  5.0 or other evidence of competence in English at this level
• completed Online Application Form including personal and academic documents, a convincing
  personal statement (motivation) and recommendation letter.

The scholarship is awarded by the ESE as a partial deduction from the annual tuition fee. Each student profile is considered individually. This scholarship is based on both the academic merit and need of the student applicant. It is therefore important that scholarship applications provide the  a complete profile of the student’s personal, professional and/or academic merits.

To apply for the ESE Scholarship students must complete the scholarship application form and send it together with the master’s application form and documents, including a financial statement, to the ESE admissions office where they wish to study.

To maintain their scholarship award students must demonstrate continued academic excellence throughout their studies at ESE. For more information about the scholarship, please contact the ESE centre of interest.

The Certificate in Management and Leadership for Business and Hospitality is accredited by the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) (UK), an Ofqual recognised Awarding Organisation established in 1982 specialising in gold standard qualifications for the hospitality, culinary, travel and tourism sectors. The qualification is internationally recognised as management certificate.

The CTH Level 3 Certificate in Management and Leadership for Business and Hospitality is a  management qualification on the UK’s Regulated Qualification Framework and adheres to the Ofqual requirements for assigning a level to a regulated qualification.

The qualification assures recognition of learning and stature within the international hospitality industry and is accepted by employers worldwide.

The programme is aimed at forming supervisors or managers in the hospitality business, but also provides for progression to other qualifications at level 4: students will have direct access into ESE’s Bachelor (BA/BSc) degree programmes, as well as other university programmes.
