The Concert is the final project for the canto (lyrical singing) part that short business course student Thespis Athineus, young actor, singer and philosopher from Greece, took with ESE Florence this winter term. The concert will be accompanied by vocal coach Monica Benvenuti and pianist Francesca Giovannelli.

About Thespis Athineus

Thespis Athineus is a professional actor and philosopher from Greece, who attended a personalised short course in Business and Lyrical Singing this winter term at ESE Florence centre. He studied musical theatre in the United States and worked as an actor in various countries. His interest moved more and more towards opera, leading him to the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam were he worked until recently, before deciding to embark on the combined business and singing programme with ESE Florence.
The individual lyrical singing classes that Thespis took were taught by Monica Benvenuti, professional singer with international experience from Florence, and accompanied by Francesca Giovannelli, professional pianist and music theory teacher.

About Monica Benvenuti

Monica Benvenuti, originally from Florence, graduated in humanistic studies and philosophy. She devoted her musical career to the baroque and classical repertoire in her early years. She later developed a specific interest in music from the 20th century and contemporary music, which brought her to explore the potential of the human voice in relation to various musical languages and even electronic experimentations.
Throughout her career she appeared in many important world famous roles as opera singer-actress
in Italy and internationally, from Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Chech Republic, Hungary, to Japan, Brazil and the USA. She was the protagonist in various operas by Silvano Bussotti (La Passion selon Sade, Silvano, Rara film, Furioso di Amneris, Ulrica, Azucena e delle streghe, Quasi la fantasia..), but also in La voix humaine by Poulenc, Die Dreigroschenoper, Happy End and Mahagonny Songspiel by Weill, La tragedie di Carmen by Bizet, Giorno di nozze by Gino Negri, and has often sung music that was composed specifically for her.
After various experiences in musical theatre, she debuted as actress in the monologue Not I by Samuel Beckett, and sang many other pieces varying from Mauricio Kagel, Luigi Nono, Schoenberg and Boulez to John Cage and Luciano Berio.
She collaborates since 2014 with
Voxnova Italia, and has recorded for Arts, Materiali Sonori, Nuova Era, Sam Classical, ARC Edition, Ema Records, Sheva Collection, Da Vinci Editions and many others.
