A new frontier for leadership: beyond ESG

In today’s world, being a sustainable company no longer simply means ‘doing less damage’. The real challenge for the leaders of the future is to become a regenerative force: to create new economic, social and environmental value by acting as conscious actors within an interconnected global system.

The ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) approach has become a fundamental standard by which to measure this commitment, but the complexity of our times demands a further step. A deeper vision is needed, one that can connect the dots between the health of the planet, the health of people and economic prosperity.

To respond to this need, the European School of Economics, true to its mission of training leaders capable of anticipating the future, presents the One Health ESG Management: the first European training course that integrates ESG criteria with the ‘One Health’ paradigm, creating a systemic vision for truly transformational leadership.

Why One Health and ESG: an integrated vision

The One Health paradigm, recognised by the world’s leading organisations (WHO, FAO, UNEP), is based on an idea that is as simple as it is powerful: the health of humans, animals and the environment are inextricably linked. We cannot have thriving communities on a sick planet.

Our programme uses this lens to reinterpret and enhance the three ESG pillars:

  • Environmental (E): It is not just about reducing resource consumption. It is about understanding how the quality of air, water and soil is a determining factor for public health and, consequently, for economic stability.
  • Social (S): Social engagement goes beyond the walls of the company. It means ensuring equitable access to safe food, health services, healthy housing and building resilient communities capable of coping with crises.
  • Governance (G): Good governance is not just compliance. It is the ability of a company to act as an ethical entity, to think long-term and to generate shared value for all its stakeholders.

The goal is ambitious: to move from a cosmetic sustainability to a regenerative sustainability, capable of preventing systemic crises and, at the same time, generating a solid competitive advantage.

A programme for those who want to lead the change

This course is designed for professionals who feel the urgency of this transformation and want to be its protagonists. It is aimed at:

  • Managers and company directors who want to integrate sustainability at the heart of their business strategy.
  • Public administration managers who need to implement effective and future-proof policies.
  • Consultants, innovators and professionals who wish to acquire unique skills to stand out in a rapidly changing labour market.

The training course: from vision to strategic action

With a total duration of 30 hours in blended (online and face-to-face in Milan and Genoa) mode, the programme is structured to provide a solid conceptual foundation and immediately applicable tools.

The CORE Module (15 hours) builds the foundation of this new vision, exploring topics such as global systemic crises, European regulations (CSRD), inclusive leadership, emerging technologies such as AI and blockchain for sustainability, and metrics to measure real impact.

Subsequently, the Vertical Modules (15 hours) allow these principles to be cast into the reality of specific sectors. These courses, which can be customised for companies or professional groups, address the concrete challenges of fields such as Healthcare & Pharma, Agribusiness, Energy, Finance, Tech, Public Administration and many others.

Learning from the protagonists: a faculty without borders

Coordinated by the ESE’s Department of Innovation and Sustainability, the programme boasts a multidisciplinary faculty of academics, business managers, and experts from foundations and research centres. The course is also enriched by International Guest Speakers, workshop activities and networking moments, offering a unique opportunity for discussion and mentorship.

A certification for real impact

At the end of the course, participants receive not just a certificate, but a real toolkit for action:

  • An International Certification in One Health ESG Management, aligned with the most important global standards (CSRD, SDGs, GRI).
  • A Digital badge certifying the vertical specialisation completed.
  • A Customised KPI Map, built during the workshops, to apply in one’s own professional reality.
  • Access to the Community of Practice One Health ESG, a space for continuous updating and collaboration.

Participating companies will also have access to the process of being recognised as a One Health Company.

The future is now. The start of the pilot programme is set for 1 October 2025.
