ESE Milan: Elio D’Anna’s talk on The New Education from Instruction to Self-Knowledge

Read moreWith the advent of AI and new technologies, the future of education has moved beyond theory and into something immediate, concrete, and inevitable.
Access to information is now universal; knowledge as content has lost its imposing, distinctive value.
In this scenario, the figure of the teacher as a transmitter of concepts and notions begins to dissolve. AI knows everything, remembers everything, explains everything – better, faster, flawlessly.
In this new paradigm, teachers and professors must take on an active, exposed, entrepreneurial role. They must stand not as employees of a system, but as individuals directly responsible for the value they produce. They must move beyond custodianship of obsolete theories or anachronistic teachings, becoming creators of valuable ideas and wealth. What they bring to the table is no longer second-hand knowledge, but themselves—their lived experience, their understanding.
Their role narrows and intensifies: less a source, more a catalyst. Authority gives way to presence, one capable of activating intelligence and responsibility. They must dare, step forward, and enter the arena of events as entrepreneurs, business strategists, philosophers of action… free individuals.
Schools and universities will increasingly take shape as real enterprises: structures with resources to allocate, risks to bear, and results to demonstrate. Living organisms capable of attracting capital, confronting competitors, and operating in reality rather than within protected spaces.
In a few short decades what does not generate real transformation, will disappear. The legitimacy of teachers will no longer be guaranteed by the institution, but by their ability to create tangible impact in people’s lives.
Success or failure will depend on the ability to translate teachings and theories into actions, experiences, and solutions. What matters will move away from what one ‘knows’ toward what one ‘is’.
Success will not be measured by grades, degrees, plans or programs, but by one thing alone: the power of doing, the ability to turn theory into effective and fruitful outcome.
AI democratizes information and marks the end of education as the possession of knowledge. But it also opens something higher: the role of the teacher as a guardian of uniqueness, a curator of each student’s genius, a catalyst of creativity and talent. A guide capable of drawing out from each individual their authentic, pure essence… their Dream.
The new education centers itself on transformation, on the quality of being rather than accumulation.
In every encounter, professors and students become true partners, sitting as if at a board of directors, sharing ideas, strategies, and solutions.
Each result, a return to authenticity and integrity.
Each student, a precious living capital – a column of a luminous, newly evolved humanity.
