Read moreHere we are with our third appointment of the weekly series created by the Department of “VISIONARY LEADERSHIP”. An archive gathering all dispenses, collections, and writings around a dedicated theme. Each chapter of the series discloses the opinions, comments and thoughts of our students.
The first chapter of the series is titled Fearlessness. It stems from the need to encourage our students to reflect on their ability to be masters of their destiny. Fearlessness is linked to the global uncertainty we breathe everywhere, a way to shield ourselves from the negativity we may be surrounded by and inspire finding the right detachment to the external world.
Find the restatement of the theme by our Milan Campus student Gurinder Singh (BSc 2), starting from the following quote of President Elio d’Anna.
Fearlessness is the door to certainty and integrity, yet no amount of effort can make you fearless.
- Elio d'Anna
Fearlessness comes by itself when you realize that there is nothing to be afraid of.
“Fearlessness is the door to certainty and integrity, yet no amount of effort can make you fearless. Fearlessness comes by itself when you realize that there is nothing to be afraid of.” I really liked this quote. However, after giving it a lot of thought, I realised that my thoughts about fearlessness differ a little from the quote. I view the relationship between fear and fearlessness from a different viewpoint hence I have a slightly different perception.
I believe that having fear is a good thing. Fear is what draws limitations to our ambition. It is not for everyone to overcome their fears and reach the next level of success and that’s what sets aside the “fearless” people from the rest of the world. In contradiction of what’s stated in the quote i believe that it takes a lot of effort to truly become fearless. Had it taken no effort or struggle to become fearless, then everybody would’ve done it. I believe to become fearless one has to be courageous first. Having fear is healthy and sane and instead of denying its existence, we should exploit it and perceive it as a challenge to overcome through our efforts of courage. People often think that courage is being fearless but i think that courage is facing and overcoming one’s fear. Admission of fear itself takes a great deal of self awareness and confidence. Hence, I believe that courage is the door to certainty and integrity which leads a path from being fearful to fearlessness”.
